About

Hello, my story is all about new beginnings, new experiences and doing things today that we say we will do in the future.  Eat less and better, save more of everything, reuse, renew and reduce where we can.  Lead a much more simpler and easier life.

A little while ago I was living on the Central Coast of New South Wales Australia and working at Sydney Showgrounds.  My three fabulous children were all in there early twenties, two going to University and the third nurturing my beautiful grandson.

My days consisted of spending over three hours a day travelling and working from 9 to 14 hours per day.  I found that most of my days off were spent recovering and getting ready for the next week.

Don’t get me wrong, I loved the job that I had but I let it grow into a monster.  Taking home files to work on my Easter Show project.  Staying back to make sure everything was finished for the day and the next day organised.

I was spending over $400 a month on fuel for my car just driving up and down the F3 freeway!  Most of my meals during my working week normally ended up being anything that I could grab on the run.  Takeaway, coffee cart, prepackaged!!.

The balance of my life was heavily weighted to work, with my family and home life making do with whatever I could give to them.

2009 was a year of awakening.  I found that I couldn’t do everything I used to do in the past.  I became stressed, tired – fatigued even.  I found myself discontented, disillusioned and certainly not too happy at all.

Everything came to ahead at the end of October ‘09.   I received a call from my mother that the doctors wanted to do tests on her heart.  They thought that she might need her mitral valve replaced.   This is a huge operation for anyone but for someone in their early 70’s it has extra risks that age brings.  Luckily for our family, my mum was found to be highly anaemic and required 4 units of blood and an iron infusion.  After having this all the symptoms – tireness, shortness of breath, heart pounding in her chest – went away.

This made me stop and really think about my life an what I was doing with it.

I found that I wanted to spend more quality time with Mum before it was too late.  If I didn’t I knew this would be one of my Life’s Regrets.

Within two weeks and after discussing it with Mum and my children, I decided to resign from my job at Sydney Showground, packup my home and my dogs and move to Dartmoor Victoria to live with my Mum & Ian my stepfather.
